iPhone OS 4.0 VS Jailbreak

Honestly, I knew there would be a time when finally Apple would include the features in the iPhone that we have all been waiting for since the very beginning. It takes them a while sometimes, but many iPhone users have a solution. The Jailbreak. This allows system wide extensions and apps that have not been authorized by Apple to run on the iPhone natively (for those like me that cant wait for the extra features).  Apple is slowly closing the gap between these two types of users with its constant updates. In regards to iPhone 4.0, many might not even Jailbreak once they upgrade, heres why.

Will App Pricing Raise?

With the release of the new iPad we may start to see changes in the App store pricing hierarchy. Along with the iPad will come specific Apps for its platform. As we saw in Apples Keynote address on the iPad, some developers have already started to develop  applications for the iPad, electronic arts, New York Times are just to name a couple. The makers behind Omnifocus also announced that they will be putting a lot of work into development on this iPad platform. This is a very exciting time, but may bring about pricing changes in the Apps store. Read more of this post

The iPad Dispute (why you think don’t like it)

As most know, Apple released their product specifications of their long awaited tablet computer on January 27th of 2010. This “magical” tablet supposedly has been in production for some time now, maybe even predating the iPhone. The general public hyped up this product more than any Apple product I have seen in some time. When Apple release their designs and tech specs on the public, they recoiled. I will tell you why. It was not what they thought it was, and it looked like a giant mobile phone. Read more of this post

Gruml RSS News Reader

Gruml is a fully featured RSS client that really makes itself stand out amongst the other news readers. I first spotted this application as I was doing a search for google sync compatible RSS readers. I have been using Netnewswire for all my news needs as it is streamlined and really smooth. The problem that I was faced with was that Netnewswire does not allow for posting of articles to other blogs, social networks or even emailing the way many applications (web based) do. So I began to search for a reader that specifically posted to Read it Later. When I came across Gruml I was rather excited to see all the functionality that it offered. Read more of this post

MyProfiles (Jailbreak App)

image1244187439.jpgMyprofiles is a jailbroken app that allows you to have fine control over the automatic changing of settings on your iPhone. The app is available for purchase via the “Rock Your Phone” app store.
Myprofiles does a great job for what it is. Based on 6 criterion, such as gps, wifi, Bluetooth, time, charging and such. With the rules engine on, the profiles you have created automatically go into effect when all the rules are matched and any of the locations or devices. This also allows for custom settings for reminders of alerts like SMS as email. You are allowed to whitelist and blacklist calls in any of these profiles as well. Read more of this post

OSX Screen Sharing

The screen sharing app that is included in Leopard is a very nice addition. This is not the iChat version of screen sharing but the one that is built into the finder when browsing other Macs. If your like me and have multiple Macs and computers around the house this software that is built into the system can come in handy. I recently found a post on Macworld that will allow a little bit more functionality to the application. This is not just a button in finder but an app and is hidden in /System/Library/CoreServices. When you pull it to the dock and apply these terminal tricks, you can be up and viewing your other Macs in no time. Read more of this post

Restore Via Target Disk

firewire-symbolRecently I acquired a Powerbook G4 that was in poor condition. I set out to repair it. I plugged it in and the white apple screen popped up. It hung there to the point where I knew there was a drive failure. I then attempted to pop OSX Leopard into the disk slot but again I was rejected. Here is a great way to repair a mac that has a bad CD/DVD reader via target disc mode. Read more of this post
