iPhone OS 4.0 VS Jailbreak

Honestly, I knew there would be a time when finally Apple would include the features in the iPhone that we have all been waiting for since the very beginning. It takes them a while sometimes, but many iPhone users have a solution. The Jailbreak. This allows system wide extensions and apps that have not been authorized by Apple to run on the iPhone natively (for those like me that cant wait for the extra features). Apple is slowly closing the gap between these two types of users with its constant updates. In regards to iPhone 4.0, many might not even Jailbreak once they upgrade, heres why.
Many of the features that regular and jailbreaking users have been waiting for are going to be released with iPhone 4.0. This is includes many features. For a normal user, there is now relatively no reason to jailbreak. Below is a list of reasons to jailbreak followed by what Apple has countered with.
Multitasking
Many users have Jailbroken for the sole purpose of multitasking on the iPhone. There is once solution on the jailbreaking store, this is called “Backgrounder” which recently received an update. Until iPhone 4.0 there was nothing to even hint that Apple approved of multitasking. But now, Apple has written a beautiful solution. The difference between the two? Backgrounder doesn’t care what App is running, its going to keep it running as if it was the foremost app. Apple multitasking takes somewhat of a different approach. This technique that Apple uses identifies what type of App it is then uses specific resources while in the background to keep information flow. This way is a lot nicer to your battery, which for an iPhone user, is a big deal.
Folders
This is also a great reason to Jailbreak. The ability to categorize Apps and sort them in folders. Which Apple has mimicked in there own stylish way. Still, in my opinion, swiping through pages and pages of Apps is a bother, Im waiting for better App launching.
Customization
Lots of users like to customize the look and feel of the software on the iPhone. I guess, the ability to switch wallpaper in the background behind Apps is a big deal for people. Its the first step in a less restricted phone in regards to customization. Still, Ill never do it. The iPhone is too small and the Apps are to close to put in a distracting background, it would mess with the names of the Apps.
Bluetooth Keyboards
Recently we were able to connect a bluetooth keyboard via the “Cydia” and “Rock your Phone” iPhone (now iPad also) stores with a couple drivers, but soon this will no longer be needed. Apple will allow you to connect bluetooth keyboards to iPods, iPhones, and iPads. In fact, the iPad is already supported. And I just paid 4.99 for that extension too.
Although Apple is closing the gap between differences of a jailbroken phone and a non-jailbroken phone there are still some viable reasons to jailbreak.
Lock Screen – displays incoming messages, texts, emails, push notifications, and even weather, right on the lock screen. (why has Apple not included this yet??)
iRealSMS – the ability to send an SMS within another App still beats multitasking out of one. Sorry.
Status Notifier – Common, sometimes my iPhone just vibrates. (If I didnt have a lockinfo) I have to open it up to see why. Usually emails. This app puts icons in the menu bar.
As of yet there are no solutions to this problem, but I am waiting. Patiently, cause when Apple writes it, its going to work. So the choice to make is even harder now, some of you still will jailbreak (me) others might not see the value anymore. Only the launch of iPhone OS 4.0 can tell us.
